Chelsea Triumphs Over Spurs 4-3: Becoming Title Contenders?
In a game full of bizarre and many mistakes , Chelsea orchestrated a remarkable comeback to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This victory propels Chelsea to second place in the league standings, now just four points adrift of leaders Liverpool and potential title contenders, as their game against Everton got postponed due to the weather conditions.
Tottenham Capitalize on Cucurella’s bizarre mistakes
Tottenham commenced the match with vigor, capitalizing on defensive lapses by Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella. In the 5th minute Cucurella had a slip and Johnson capitalized on this mistake by squaring the ball to Dominic Solanke who scored the opener . The second goal happened in a similar bizarre fashion when Cucurella slipped and gave the ball away and Dejan Kulusevski scored brilliant goal and gave Spurs a 2-0 lead by the 12th minute.
These early setbacks prompted Cucurella to change his boots on the sidelines, who was clearly struggling for grip. After the match he latter apologized to the Chelsea fans by throwing his old boots to the bin.
Jadon Sancho finding his form?
Jadon Sancho who has struggled in the past few years to find his form scored the first goal for Chelsea, scoring for 2 games in a row for the first time in his Premier League career. He scored a brilliant goal in the 24th minute by cutting the ball to inside and took a shot from outside the box and found the net as he started Chelsea’s comeback.
A lack of Discipline from Spurs Defenders and Record Breaking Day for Cole Palmer
In the 60th minute of the game we saw Spurs lack of disciple which would lead to their eventual defeat as Bissouma fouled Caicedo inside the box giving a penalty to Chelsea which was easily converted by Cole Palmer who never looked like missing and drew the game 2-2. Later in the 73rd minute we saw a brilliant dribble by Cole Palmer as he got past three defenders and looked for a pass in the box that found Enzo Fernandes who fired it in, showcasing his brilliant technique by scoring despite the ball spinning he found the back of the net and gave Chelsea the lead bringing the score to 3-2.
Spurs lack of discipline again showed by conceding another silly penalty in the 82nd minute, when Sarr put Cole palmer to ground in the edge of the penalty despite there being no threat. The penalty was later converted by “Cold Palmer” who showed his icy cold composure by scoring a cheeky Panenka Penalty that further extended their lead, making it 4-2 and also broke the Premier League record of the most consecutive Penalty’s scored by scoring 12 in a row which was previously held by Yaya Touré (11). This goal also made him Chelsea’s goal contributor in a calendar year, in their history with 38 goals and assists .

Chelsea’s title hopes?
This win for Chelsea means they stay second place in the Premier League but also close the gap to Liverpool as there is only a 4 point gap between them, however while Liverpool do have a game in hand this result certainly puts pressure on them just a they were looking like they might run away with the title. While many of us speculate of whether or not Chelsea has a chance at the title, both Cole Palmer and their Manager Enzo Maresca have publicly stated that they are not in the title fight and in the post-match interview Jadon Sancho said the same and how they are looking to just get 3 points from each game week. Whether this is tactical decision to not put pressure on the players, it is hard to deny that this impressive run off form has definitely put them in a great spot to win the title and if they can continue this form, there is no reason why they can’t win it.
